Thanks to the Pina Bausch Foundation, the artist’s famous choreographical line Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter from her Nelken spectacle of 1982 is danced by audience members all over the world. This time – in Warsaw, as part of Ciało/Umysl Festival.

Everyone can participate in this initiative. Professionals and amateurs, experts and onlookers, old and young people. Together with friends, family members, colleagues or even complete strangers – united in a momentary community thanks to the primal force and joy of dance. In gardens, schools, parks, parking lots, or, as it is the case in Warsaw, on a city square.

The so-called lines, or “passages” are recurring and characteristic elements in many performances of the legendary German choreographer Pina Bausch. Sequences of movements with repetitive steps and gestures that the dancers perform standing in long line, often proceeding into the audience. The Pina Bausch Foundation has decided to go one step further with the project NELKEN-Line. It organizes workshops in different places, cities or at festivals all over the world during which everyone is welcome to join and dance what is probably the best known line of all of Pina Bausch’s works: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter.  With just a few simple gestures shown by leading dancers, the line tells about the never-ending alternation of the four seasons with random dancers proceeding in a long line and repeating the consecutive phases of movement.

If the past is already gone, and the future is not yet here, the present narrows down almost to a point which constitutes a moment to exist in timelessness, improvise in movement, be “here and now”. Searching for such a state of mind, C/U Festival invites everyone to join the shared jamming and experience the integrating power of movement.
